Touch Screen Kiosk
One example of this convergence can be seen in a recent project we completed for the Peoria County Courthouse. One Hat developed a touchscreen kiosk which has interactive 3D maps and a database of information, all built as an Adobe AIR desktop application.
The purpose of the kiosk was to help visitors understand the sometimes complicated routes to various rooms within the courthouse building. In order to facilitate this visually, One Hat built a 3D scale model of the entire courthouse plaza in the computer and used it to develop animations that literally draw the route within the floors of the building.
The kiosk also presents its information textually so people who are verbally oriented can easily understand the route. Once a location is selected, the kiosk presents other relevant information, such as room number, office hours, and services offered by the selected department.
