Featured Site: Peoria County

In July of 2007, One Hat Design Studio brought the latest round of updates to the Peoria County Website. We are proud of this site and are happy to show off some of its best features!

Clean, up-to-date design

The Peoria County website was given this facelift in order to make the site feel relevant for today's citizens. We believe its look is as good as the best websites on the Internet today.

Dynamic art

The top navigation bar has a dynamic sliding effect, as does the search tab. Also, the header photo of the site changes throughout the day to reflect the current time. It’s a subtle detail, but we think it’s important.

Full-featured content management system

It couldn't be easier to add a new page to the site. Click Add Simple Page and a form appears with everything you need for page creation. An inline WYSIWYG editor (screenshot) allows you to build the page just like in Microsoft Word. Switch to Source mode for more advanced editing. Best of all, the form uses AJAX to test the data you’ve entered as you’re typing it. Once submitted, the server checks your HTML for validity and cleans up your mistakes.

Dynamic modules, separated by department

In all, there are eleven custom-built modules operating behind the scenes on this website. Each of them are smart enough to differentiate content from the different departments. For example, the news module enables each department to have its own news page with content specific to that department. It also allows for these department-specific news items to be promoted to the main site’s front page.

Handicapped accessibility

This site validates as XHTML 1.0 Transitional, and is intentionally made to be handicapped-accessible according to Section 501 guidelines. Screenreaders should have no problem navigating the site and accessing all content.

RSS Feeds

Each department has its own RSS feed.

Weather module

Want to know the current Peoria weather? This module shows the current conditions and displays weather alerts in bold red lettering. Best of all, there is no monthly charge to the site owner for this service. It gets the information from the NOAA’s site for free!
